Alexander & Hornung recalls more than 230,000 pounds of pork products for possible listeria

“So far no illnesses have been reported. In a statement on its website, alexanderhornung.com, the company said “there is no conclusive evidence that the products were contaminated at the time of shipment, the voluntary recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution.””

PRESS THIS FOR SHARON: If there’s no conclusive evidence, then why recall approximately a quarter million pounds of what isn’t contaminated? What alerted them? Who tested and for what did they test and why? Was it found? Where was it found and how was it found?

Somebody had to find something in order for the recall to list Listeria as the reason.

Give the public the details. We can handle it.

These alerting agencies need to give people more information. Such a huge recall based on no conclusive evidence? Somebody is hiding something, which means somebody is lying.

How does that compare to when there is conclusive evidence? I don’t see much difference in the response, which means someone isn’t doing their job.

There was no conclusive evidence that the items were contaminated at the time of shipping, which means they got contaminated someplace else along the route from factory to home? And people may have listeria-containing product in their freezers.

No illnesses were reported only means no doctor or healthcare facility seeing patients presenting with Listeria symptoms tested for Listeria, because the symptoms are similar to the flu. Patients would more than likely be tested for COVID.

Most people recover without seeing a doctor. There may be lots of evidence of illness that never got recorded, because people didn’t get tested for Listeria or because they didn’t go to the doctor.

Does cooking the product kill Listeria, like it kills Salmonella? A responsible agency would have given that information.

PORK. IT’S ABOUT PORK. Something’s FISHY though.

Thorough cooking of food kills Listeria bacteria. Ensure food is cooked thoroughly. If you plan to eat previously cooked and refrigerated leftovers, only keep them in the refrigerator for a day and reheat them thoroughly to steaming hot. This will kill Listeria bacteria.

Symptoms of listeria infection

The CDC says symptoms of listeria infection can be different depending on the person and part of the body affected.

Healthy individuals may experience high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Symptoms usually start one to four weeks after eating food contaminated with listeria. But they can also start as late as 70 days after exposure, the CDC says.

Pregnant women

Typically, pregnant women experience only fever and other flu-like symptoms, such as fatigue and muscle aches. However, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the newborn.

Higher-risk other than pregnant women

Symptoms can include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions in addition to fever and muscle aches.
